Waiting For Godot at Smock Alley Theatre 23 July - 10 August 2019

It was like stepping back in time to photograph Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot, directed by Patrick Sutton at Smock Alley Theatre this week. This was mainly down to the fact that I’d photographed the same show in the exact same space in 2015, just when I was starting out as Smock’s in house photographer. I really loved working there. Every week there was a new and interesting production coming in, and each show had a freshness and originality that made them so engaging to photograph. I think I’d just bought myself a Canon 70D then, which felt like the holy grail of digital cameras for me back then. The gear I have now is a bit of a step up from what I had then, but running around and shooting what is quite a difficult show to cover, still felt the exact same. It’s not easy, but it’s another reminder why I love to do what I do and why I got into this in the first place. It was handy having two class actors in Charlie and Donal to shoot for over two hours, as well as Ger Byrne and Rex Ryan of course. It’s a really great show too, so I’d recommend checking it out while the run lasts, for info on booking, check out the link here

24 Hours From Tulsk at the Viking Theatre

Got to work once more for the Viking Theatre, this time for their upcoming performance of 24 Hours From Tulsk, written by Michael O’Sullivan and directed by Elyn Friedrichs. I never knew Tulsk was a place in Roscommon before undertaking this project so I was glad my geography of Ireland got given a much needed boost once I found out Tulsk wasn’t a place in Oklahoma! For more info on the show you can find it here.

"Do We Not Laugh?" by the Loaded Dice Theatre Company at the Pavilion Theatre, Dun Laoghaire

Just wanted to share a few photos I took for the Loaded Dice Theatre Company and their production of “Do We Not Laugh?”, a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. I covered a photoshoot with them a few weeks ago and when I found out they would be performing in the Pavilion Theatre I was more than happy to volunteer and take some pics on the night for them. It was a wonderful night to be a part of and I did feel genuinely inspired by what I was seeing in front of me. I’ve always loved taking theatre photos and that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Thanks to Charlotte, Lorna and Louise for allowing me to be a small part of the team and of course to the cast for being so confident and fun in front of the camera!
